On Thanksgiving Day we encourage you to tune into Princeton, New Jersey’s WPRB 103.3 FM, when hosts Teri Noel Towe and Orchestra Board Member Mike Cone present 12 continuous hours of Philadelphia Orchestra recordings made between 1927 and 2012. This Orchestra programming marathon begins right at 6 AM and finishes at 6 PM—just in time for dinner!
As you may very well know by now, the Orchestra's 2012-13 season is special in more ways than one. Of course, we officially welcomed to Philadelphia our new music director, Yannick Nézet-Séguin, who conducted a successful Opening Weekend and second week of concerts with our incredible musicians. This weekend's concerts continue the celebration of another famous conductor in the Orchestra's history: Leopold Stokowski.
This week The Philadelphia Orchestra presents a series of concerts that, in part, are re-creations of a pair of concerts given by Leopold Stokowski and the Orchestra in December 1935. On the program this week are two pieces that Stokowski and the Orchestra performed on December 27 and 28, 1935: César Franck’s Symphony in D minor and Francis Poulenc’s Concerto in D minor for Two Pianos and Orchestra.
