Presenting: the brass family! Philadelphia Orchestra musician Matt Vaughn will guide the audience through this regal instrument family.
Lace up your skates, cue Waldteufel’s “The Skaters’” Waltz, and get ready to hit the ice with The Philadelphia Orchestra. All winter long the Orchestra presents “Symphony Sundays” at the Rothman Institute Ice Rink at Dilworth Park.
“What a wonderful setting this is! Spectacular for all of us to enjoy,” said Philadelphia Orchestra President and CEO Allison Vulgamore at the Rink’s grand opening. The Orchestra is a new sponsor of the Rink, which is now in its third year. “We’re delighted that the Orchestra can bring our musical resources,” she said.
The Rink is open daily on the west side of City Hall from now through February. Skate to recorded music by The Philadelphia Orchestra every Sunday afternoon from noon until 2 PM. Admission is $3 for kids ages 10 and under, $5 for adults, and $10 for skate rental.
Not ready to show off your triple axel? Once a month, professional skaters will perform to waltzes and other classics by the Fabulous Philadelphians. Click here for the complete schedule and more information.
The Rothman Ice Rink officially opened on November 11—Veterans Day. In honor of the holiday, the Orchestra also announced a new military discount on tickets.
“We join the chorus of wanting to say thank you and to pay tribute to all those who serve or have served with a new program to invite all active military and veterans into our home, to our concerts, whenever you can,” said Vulgamore.
Active servicemen and women, veterans, and their families can receive discounts ranging from 10% to 30% on most concerts throughout the season. For more information visit our website. Tickets can be purchased in person at the Kimmel Center Box Office. Just bring your military ID.
