Assistant Conductor

Assistant Conductor Audition: Tuesday, March 12, 2019, with Yannick Nézet-Séguin and The Philadelphia Orchestra in Perelman Theater at the Kimmel Center.

The Philadelphia Orchestra seeks an assistant conductor beginning with the 2019-20 season. The assistant conductor has the opportunity to conduct select educational, community, summer, and special concerts, with the possibility for additional podium time based on experience. The assistant conductor also serves as an assistant and cover conductor to Music Director Yannick Nézet-Séguin, as well as to an unparalleled roster of esteemed guest conductors in Philadelphia, on international tours, and in summer residencies.

The assistant conductor also provides general artistic consultation, assists in the preparation of major artistic projects and productions, and reviews recorded material for commercial releases or broadcast. The assistant conductor conducts or leads educational events such as PlayINs, Side-by-Sides, and PopUP concerts with Philadelphia Orchestra musicians. Other duties may include hosting pre-concert lectures, artist interviews, cultivation events, and other audience engagement activities.

Finalists will be invited to conduct in a live audition on Tuesday, March 12, 2019, at 10:30 AM with The Philadelphia Orchestra and Music Director Yannick Nézet-Séguin in Perelman Theater at the Kimmel Center.

The final selected candidate will begin on September 1, 2019. The position offers a competitive salary requisite with experience and full benefits. Minimum one-year contract with opportunity for additional length dependent on experience.
