The Philadelphia Orchestra's National Broadcasts on SiriusXM Renewed

April 2, 2019

Weekly series features exclusive content and recordings

under Music Director Yannick Nézet-Séguin

(Philadelphia, April 2, 2019)—The Philadelphia Orchestra is proud to announce that its partnership with SiriusXM will continue for another season with new weekly episodes of its radio series SiriusXM Presents The Philadelphia Orchestra. The broadcasts on SiriusXM’s Symphony Hall channel give millions of subscribers from around the country the opportunity to hear the famous “Philadelphia Sound” through concert recordings paired with exclusive commentary from Music Director Yannick Nézet-Séguin, musicians of the Orchestra, and other special guests. Since the launch of the series in May 2017, The Philadelphia Orchestra has been the only American orchestra to provide exclusive content to SiriusXM on a regular basis.

“Making our music as widely accessible as possible is central to our mission,” said Philadelphia Orchestra President and CEO Matías Tarnopolsky. “The Philadelphia Orchestra has long been known as a trailblazer on the airwaves and for its innovative use of technology. We are excited to extend our valued partnership with SiriusXM, a pioneer in radio broadcasting, as we continue to bring our distinctive sound to communities near and far.”

SiriusXM Presents The Philadelphia Orchestra is one of the high points on SiriusXM’s Symphony Hall channel,” said Trinity, vice president of music programming at SiriusXM. “Our subscribers experience the legendary ‘Philadelphia Sound’ with the benefit of Nézet-Séguin’s unique perspective in his introductions to the music heard on each week’s broadcast.”

The renewed series includes 26 new episodes that will air three times per week over the course of a year on SiriusXM’s Symphony Hall, channel 76. Half of the programming will feature Orchestra recordings from the 2018-19 season, while the remaining half will highlight archival recordings dating back to the beginning of Nézet-Séguin’s tenure as music director in the 2012-13 season.

SiriusXM is one of the world’s largest audio entertainment and subscription media companies, with 34 million subscribers tuning in to commercial-free, curated music channels spanning countless decades and genres. The Symphony Hall channel plays classical music performed by top conductors, orchestras, chamber music ensembles, and instrumental soloists from around the world.

The Philadelphia Orchestra has a long and venerable history of radio broadcasts, as the first orchestra with its own commercially sponsored national radio series, beginning in 1929 on NBC.

SiriusXM Presents The Philadelphia Orchestra airs three times each week: Monday at 7 PM ET, Thursday at 12 AM ET (Wednesday at 9 PM PST), and Saturday at 6 PM ET on SiriusXM’s Symphony Hall, channel 76, or at https://player.siriusxm.com. Weekly broadcasts of The Philadelphia Orchestra will continue to be heard on-air on WRTI 90.1 and online at www.wrti.org each Sunday at 1 PM.
